Bourne’s Service Center started as a two-bay station in Stowe, Vermont some 32+ years ago. Rene Bourne opened the shop with every cent he had to his name (and a few besides) with one technician and himself. Two years after opening—and thoroughly enjoying the challenge, success, and people of Stowe—Rene had the opportunity to come to South Burlington and take over a larger station. He couldn’t pass up the chance to grow his business, and three decades later, Bourne’s Service Center is still going strong.
It’s been a thrill ride serving drivers in South Burlington, and it continues to bring me great satisfaction. My background is in engineering with a degree in math and science, but growing up my family operated a service station. While I never thought I’d make a career out of auto repair, my background has led me happily here.
The people I’ve been able to meet and work with at the shop have greatly influenced my life, even enabling me to meet my wife, Sharon, of over 25 years. My family has and continues to be a great resource for me, at home and on the job. In my spare time, I play golf, and Sharon and I enjoy traveling whenever we can.
Steve recently relocated back to Vermont from Ohio to be closer to his family. He has numerous General Motors certifications for diesel engines, light trucks, and cars. He’s also MAC (Mobile Air Conditioning) certified, and is now an ASE "Master Automobile Technician" and has even conquered the elusive "Advanced Level Specialist" ASE certification!!
Steve’s many years of automotive and light truck repair experience at dealerships and independent shops make him a valuable part of our team here at Bourne’s. He enjoys the challenge of those pesky electrical problems as well as those troublesome drivability issues. With his experience, he’s comfortable working on all makes and models.
Rich has worked in the automotive field for over 20 years, and is now ASE certified in 5 categories. He’s very comfortable tearing Subaru engines apart or pulling a transmission to replace a clutch. Those darn “check engine lights” are not a problem for Rich, and he works on both foreign and domestic vehicles. With all of his skills, he’s an important member of our team.
